Apparently 11yo is doing a project on the history of the UAE in his G&T class thing.
He got me going on elective monarchies and now he knows the history of the Holy Roman Empire and the Vatican City and the unification of Italy. He listened very politely.

@rk@mastodon.well.com I spent some time travelling to the UAE for work. The citizens of the affluent Emirates would believe everything is great there. I have deep reservations about the whole system there. It is built on a lot of exploitation. Not as much as Saudi or Iraq, but nevertheless.
