I have an old old hard drive that has stuff going as far back as 2008 on it. I found it a couple years ago and predictably it was dead, just wouldn’t turn on.
Recently decided to actually see what I could do to get it operating. Turns out it was a super easy fix.
Taking it out of the enclosure it was a hard drive with a sata to micro usb adapter attached to said hard drive. Turns out the adapter was dead. Plugged the hard drive directly in via sata and it worked perfectly. Was able to transfer everything to my much newer ssd!
My entire iTunes library, really old iPhoto library, and backups of old desktops was on there, got it all back!
