@fonecokid@c.im my other half (who's South Korean) watched an interview with someone about this today, and they gave quite a few reasons why the South Korean Government wouldn't be sending troops etc:
They sent their own advisors to check out the situation, and basically found it was so much of a shit-show they didn't want to be involved.
Budget that was supposed to be kept for medical evacuation helicopters at various bases had been used for other things, so some of the injured soldiers that could bave been evacuated to specialist medical facilities had to be treated in local (non-US) countries instead because the equipment and personnel were not available.
They also reckon that some of the bases that were destroyed we kind of done on purpose (or could have been saved?) to hide evidence of strikes against civilian infrastructure (like that school at the start of the war), so that the leaders cannot be charged with war crimes.
Crazy shit. I've not heard any of this mentioned in Western media about the reasons South Korea doesn't want to be involved, other than it was unpopular with their population.
