I think my NDA with the Marines finally expired. I wasn't given a lot of information but was selected alongside a handful of others in my platoon for an experimental drug to enhance night vision.
They picked 4 of us who scored decently high on the range and injected our eyes with a very small needle with a small amount of liquid in it. For the left eye they had us look as far left as we could and injected the needle as far back into the eye as they could. Then the same for the right eye but looking right. I never wanted to blink so bad but they had those eye opening things like in A Clockwork Orange on us. It didn't really hurt but I felt a lot of pressure in my eyes for the proceeding 2 weeks.
I didn't really notice any change in my sight during or after those 2 weeks. My platoon did a night range 3 weeks after the injection. I guess the injection was to supplement night vision goggles because I didn't think I could see any better at night without them. All 4 of us that were part of the experiment scored slightly higher on the night range than our peers who had similar scores on the day range so I guess it worked. I never used NVG's prior to that night range so I don't know what actual difference there was.
The four of us never heard anything of it after. We just know we scored higher than others in our platoon because we asked each other. I assume our scores from then were just data points in their research. Maybe the four of us were just flukes or something. Don't know if they're still doing this or if they dropped it. Maybe the enhancement wasn't significant enough to warrant the cost or risk.
