@GeofCox@climatejustice.social I like the canal analogy. Money is the water in the canal. The government pumps it in at the top and it flows out as tax a the bottom. Controls are required to keep the canal from running dry or flooding. It becomes obvious that individuals taking water out of the canal and hoarding it is a bad thing. Giving more money to people who spend it is not.

  • @markmason@mas.to @GeofCox@climatejustice.social I seem to recall that the first "economic models" were basically plumbing, with water representing the financial flows and various tasks and levers to model the effect of policy. (Now I have to go and find an image or something to prove I wasn't dreaming this...) Here we go... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydraulic_macroeconomics

@markmason@mas.to @GeofCox@climatejustice.social The Bank of England had a model of the economy made of water flowing through tubes. Seriously.

  • @markmason@mas.to @GeofCox@climatejustice.social does the crypto currency fad equate to teeming acid rain polluting the canal in this analogy?
