For the first time, astronomers have detected sugar molecules (erythrulose, to be precise) in deep space, floating near the center of our galaxy. It adds to the evidence for complex prebiotic carbon chemistry in interstellar clouds, even before planets form.

We now know that interstellar clouds are full of water, alcohols, sugars, and esters. All the basic molecular components you need to make an Old Fashioned or a Margarita. https://www.jpl.nasa.gov/news/cheers-nasas-webb-finds-ethanol-other-icy-ingredients-for-worlds/ #astronomy #space #science #nature #culture
