The trauma follows you.
I left the US years ago and people still look at me like I’m insane when I catch a cold and I don’t go to the doctor.
I drove 40 minutes to the hospital once after an injury, and people thought I was insane for not calling an ambulance.

I’ve never lived in the US. Going to the doctor for the common cold is insane. Driving to a hospital if you’re not badly injured is perfectly normal.
