RE: https://mstdn.ca/@JEmphatically/117226240726379350 With less than 30 days to go before the Alberta referendum, and after the deadline to request a special ballot had passed...Mom's seniors residence has figured out that their mobile polling station is probably going to be a nightmare on Oct. 19. So, they delivered a single sheet of paper with the list of questions to each resident encouraging them to read them ahead of time and decide how they're going to vote. If you've read the questions, you know that they are deliberately confusing and misleading. The government's ad campaign is also misleading. And we're paying for it all with our tax dollars while health care for seniors and everyone else is being privatized because of 50+ years of conservative party mismanagement. My guess is a lot of the seniors in my mom's residence are barely aware of the vote, let alone understand the questions. They will look to others to tell them how to vote, because the information is mostly only available online, and they simply don't have access to it. #ableg #cdnpoli

RE: https://mstdn.ca/@JEmphatically/117198153729779729 UPDATE: It took three trips to the registry office before my mom finally received her photo ID card in the mail. I knew that she needed that ID card in order to set up her Alberta.ca account and receive the $100 Energy Rebate. Today, I tried to set that account up and discovered either we will need to visit the registry office yet again, or wait for a verification number to be mailed through Canada Post. There is a Sept. 30 deadline to receive the rebate. I wasn't expecting them to have the incorrect phone number. I should've known. Alberta Registries still had her phone number from three years ago...despite having just visited the registry office last month where we updated all of that information. Online verification, which I assumed would be working, required a phone number. The only other option was snail mail. Technology Minister Nate Glubish is so big on AI, yet the government clearly can't even get the basics right.
