@vozercozer@vozer.cafe this is an arguably cringe memory that is fond: when i was like 12 or something, i was playing Fortnite a lot. they just added a Creative mode and i somehow gathered a group of mostly adults to play with and i was the "boss". we were gonna play hide and seek so i was explaining the rules. but like, i was a child, so i was mostly just making the rules up as i was explaining them. sensible rules but it's not like i had anything prepared. it was not based on experience from hosting similar games with other groups . i ended up contradicting myself. and someone interjected, and asked for clarification along the lines of "but you said $X. now it's $Y? which is it actually?" i don't know how i felt in the moment or what i responded with. i know we still played hide and seek and i had a good time. in hindsight, i look fondly on this because these people who probably had better things to do were (a) playing with me and treating me as an equal, (b) allowing me to have authority, even though i was clearly bad at it. and (c) actually listening to me and caring about what i had to say, not just pretending or whatever. they were nice to me. even though i was probably a bit annoying. like, i probably would not want to play games with an annoying bossy kid who insists they be in charge of the lobby. but these people did. i don't know who they are, or what their names were, but i'm grateful to them for spending time with me.
