@mpjgregoire@cosocial.ca Quid pro quo: "Postmedia’s publications have endorsed the Conservative Party in every federal election since the company’s founding in 2010. This is no coincidence. A 2015 investigation confirmed that the decision to endorse the Conservatives was made at Postmedia’s head office, not independently by local editorial boards. When Edmonton Journal columnist Paula Simons confirmed this publicly on social media, it was one of the few moments of transparency in what had otherwise been a deliberately opaque process. Andrew Coyne, then head of the National Post’s editorial board, resigned over the episode after being denied permission to publish a column dissenting from the chain’s Conservative endorsement. The day after that endorsement ran, the front page of every Postmedia newspaper in the country carried a full-page Conservative Party advertisement — designed to look strikingly like Elections Canada materials." https://raybwilliams.medium.com/when-did-poilievre-says-become-enough-to-count-as-news-89e6605714ed

@NMBA@mstdn.ca The #NationalPost has never posed as a neutral source of news. It was created to offer a #conservative perspective on Canadian affairs, and so it naturally endorses conservative parties. See https://www.readthemaple.com/election-endorsements/ If you disagree with conservative ideas in general, that might be frustrating, but I think we come closer to the truth when opposing opinions debate. (And, while I don't object to newspaper proprietors setting the editorial line, they should have printed @acoyne@newsie.social 's column.)
