Her bank accounts are still open, but the banks can’t issue her cards on those companies networks. So she should have access to Interac in a no-Interac nation. 😵💫
That’s a Europe-wide issue, they are very USA payment network centrered, even if I know they’re trying to move away from them. Same for the Internet.

I’ll note that Canada also doesn’t have an indy credit card network… we only do debit.

@EdwinG@mstdn.moimeme.ca Normally, a bank issues credit card to a person without VISA's permission. VISA doesn't know about it nor does it have access to her account. They just see a credit card transaction whose first 5 digits point to a certain bank. What is also possible is that she got added to a black list and member banks check every new customer against it so that would explain why she can't get a VISA or Mastercard.
