@dalias@hachyderm.io @dcoderlt@ohai.social @khm I think there may be a misunderstanding about what I meant, and perhaps I could have expressed it more clearly. For years, I have tried to make the BSD Cafe a healthy, constructive and tolerant community. That's something I care deeply about. And precisely because of that, intolerance is not welcome here. Nazis and fascists have never been welcome in the BSD Cafe, and they never will be. What I was asking for was something different: not to start pile-ons or condemn people in advance, but to judge them by what they actually say and do. Someone asking a question about a controversial distribution does not automatically make that person a Nazi. Someone being curious about something, discussing it, or even asking an uncomfortable question is not enough for me to assign them such a serious label. If, on the other hand, that person goes on to advocate Nazi or fascist ideas, promotes hatred or discrimination, threatens people, or behaves in ways that are clearly incompatible with the kind of community we are trying to build, then the situation is very different. And yes, they are out. This isn't about considering Nazism "just another opinion", and it certainly isn't about making the BSD Cafe a welcoming place for Nazis. Quite the opposite. It's about trying to build a community where we can be open-minded without being naive, tolerant without tolerating intolerance, and where we judge people on evidence and behaviour rather than starting a shitstorm around them before they've actually done anything. You're absolutely free to disagree with that approach, of course, and you're free to defederate from the BSD Cafe if you feel our moderation philosophy is incompatible with yours. That's part of the freedom the Fediverse gives all of us. I only wanted to clarify this because I don't think we're as far apart on the fundamental point as your post might suggest.
