Here’s a trick: if you know the person who started a thread is a professor of the subject at hand, you can acknowledge their knowledge by writing “I respect your expertise and would like to add…”
Words are like magic n’stuff.

If you disagree you can also write “I respect that you’ve done extensive research on the subject but I disagree on this point…” and bring some citations. Unless they’re one of those fascist “race science” assholes of course. Or a co-author of the PACE study. In that case, throwing eggs (or tomatoes if you’re vegan) is a perfectly civil response to harmful obvious bullshit.
