Expect sheep, wool, and textile history. Also birbs. Infosec on occasion.
I use content warnings for topics and images that can trigger PTSD. I do not use them to shield people ***without*** trauma from experiencing racism, sexism, transphobia, and other forms of discrimination. If you can ignore politics, you’re not likely in need of content warnings for much of anything, really.

Avatar: me holding a baby goat.

Having to pay for a library card seems so incredibly backwards. Germany. WTF. “But there are discounts.” NO. FREE. FREE FOR EVERYONE. “But there’s so little funding.” NO. How do you think governments get most people to support nice things for broke people? “Free for everyone” is how. Means testing for libraries? Fuck off.

Fascism takes a complex issue and offers a solution so devoid of context that it addresses nothing and only creates suffering. However, sometimes the good things are also simple. The complexity is in knowing the difference. Sometimes it really does take a bunch of researchers to figure something out. For many issues, a knee-jerk reaction based on which policy sounds like it was dreamed up by assholes will be backed up by lots of research. People are homeless. Give them homes. Children are h...

Capitalism is a system that asserts that recycling electronics where they are used is too expensive and time-consuming, but enslaved children mining rare materials that pay for war on civilians is peak efficiency.

I don’t want a new phone. I want my perfectly good hardware to keep getting updates until it actually stops working. I want replaceable batteries that get recycled. If a company stops giving updates I want to be able to change the OS.

Software selection checklist: - does it do the thing? - is it secure? - is it user friendly and accessible? - is the project secretly hiring a violent serial abuser or openly employing a creep? - do they have fascists on the payroll? - do they funnel money to or from fascists? seriously people, fill out that “about us” page and if your team is anonymous, abide by a contributor covenant/code of conduct and say so!

A reminder that even if someone is good at computer and can make more bleep boop than anyone has made a computer bleep or bloop before, assholes kill joy, community, and whatever technical goals you have. Many bleep bloop plus asshole equals no bleep bloop. Thank you for coming to my Fed Up Talk.

Omg you don’t like the textiles that are available? Just go shear a sheep, gather stinging nettles, skirt the fleece, rett the stalks to get at the bast fibers, make a spindle, spin the fiber, build a loom, disassemble a bike wheel to make knitting pins, weave your own cloth, knit your own socks, sew a tunic, go live in a bog without any human contact because all of this takes too much time for being social. This post is about technology.

“Don’t speak ill of the dead” is more about not starting a fist fight at the funeral. In other words, when a horrible person dies, wait until the relatives and friends leave before watering the flowers.
