You have way more control over the combat in Emerald Beyond than in Scarlet Grace, which is great. However, the story... exists, I guess. The delivery in Scarlet Grace wasn't great (and I didn't finish it to see if it gets better), but it feels more "solidly built" than in Emerald Beyond. The combat definitely makes up for it tho. It's like a puzzle that changes every time and scratches the right part of my brain.
