@dlakelan@mastodon.sdf.org There's nothing to stop someone from turning off bitlocker and then re-enable it thus choosing NOT to store their key with Microsoft. Microsoft's BitLocker key escrow has been known since Day 1. Privacy experts have always said if you care about privacy, don't store your recovery key with Microsoft. Sheesh.

    @gme@bofh.social The issue is that random people are not security experts nor do they read security experts advice. They buy computers at Best Buy and maybe the guy at best buy helps them set it up and they click the accept button for the end user or whatever. this default unsafe behavior is bad and people who are everyday users of computers need to know about it.
