I sometimes half-jokingly wonder if any foreigners actually learn German, or do they also just get by somehow? Like, I know a guy from the USSR who went to school here, and he still doesn't speak well.

@creepy_owlet@mastodon.online Native German speaker here and i have to say, i don't know 😬 I remember a friend of mine learning German. He asked me how to say a certain expression. I told him. He adapted it to a slightly different context and i had to tell him "in that case it's totally different" I regularly joke that i feel very lucky to be German and therefore speak German because learning German as a second language is SO hard
