Asahi fork embraces LLMs and lands Linux on the M4 Mac mini https://www.theregister.com/os-platforms/2026/09/25/asahi-fork-embraces-llms-and-lands-linux-on-the-m4-mac-mini/5298931 There are reasons to dislike this development, but I want to highlight something that #AI critics purposely ignore. Many FOSS projects (ours included) are under serious competitive pressure from ones that are less scrupulous with their AI usage policies. Or outright vibe coded. This announcement says nothing about t...

Question for German native speakers: do you also try to simply learn all separable/non-separable verbs by heart or do you actually develop some sort of intuition for them? Especially for durch- which doesn't seem to have any rules?

My body hated the idea of returning to regular cardio today so much that it woke me up with a debilitating calf cramp. Now even getting the daily steps in will be a challenge. How's your morning going?

FFS I'm tired from reading takes like this (#gitlab). "Human in control" only works if you use AI as a fine tool: carefully and only when benefits are clear. For agentic development, it's bullshit company leaders tell each other to make their strategy seem plausible. The key problem is that in the agentic development world humans will quickly unlearn to understand first the code, then the architecture. You cannot be an architect without hands-on experience. Apparently, marketing genius invented such a thing as "SUV E-Bike". Is it the same thing as "trekking bikes" but with an engine?

#AI haters, your time to shine! In a few weeks I'll probably have to make a presentation on full-cycle agentic development, and it's going to be a tough one. I'd appreciate links to any high-quality analysis of this topic specifically. Downsides, gotchas, misconceptions, you know. The more thoughtful and nuanced the better. Note that I'm not looking for general AI criticism - I can produce enough of it myself. And no, the target audience is not much interested i...

I'll tell you a tale. Once, we looked at social networks we used and realized that their algorithms were hostile, their environment footprint untenable, and their fascistic owners had terrible motives. So we rejected the very idea of social networks and shamed anyone who tried to use them. And when someone suggested a network that is controlled by community members and consists of federated servers, we rejected them in disgust for any social network is immoral by design. 1/2
