@lauren@mastodon.laurenweinstein.org I had to change all the settings on my Masto server to authenticated only after meta hammered it and tripled the media cache to 60gb over a weekend. For so long I was anti 'walled gardens' on the web, now I'm starting to believe they are essential. Not the corporate lock ins, more community allotments.

I have few kilobytes of cpu-hog lines in the .htaccess like RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} (BingAI|Bingbot-chat ... |MSBot [NC,OR] ... But it was not enough. Still many random household ips scrappers were exhausting my tiny allowance in mere minutes.
