@rootschange@kolektiva.social @scathach@stereophonic.space > Why is a smart phone app still required? Because some bad people want to use hardened by them Linux desktop and it would not be possible to read their messages by the lawful warrant (to search their phone) using Pegasus or similar hacking tools. If there is an app on the phone, and this phone sits without battery in the drawer, Linux desktop of a bad guy will get delinked. So bad guy will be pushed to turn this phone on. The...

> A shockingly inefficient trillion-dollar project This is a shockingly effective plan for the complete elimination of the middle class and democracy, and the restoration of widespread slavery. A generation deprived of the opportunity to learn will be unable to figure out how to rid itself of its owners.

@QasimRashid@mastodon.social Republicans are passing the SAVE (us) Act because they plan to use any form of systemic fraud to stay in power. For the starter they will disenfranchise tens of millions of women and minorities. The white nationalist poors wait in the line.

@dzwiedziu@mastodon.social @infobeautiful@vis.social As for the heat storage: mid-temperature heat accumulator can store around 500kWh per 1 cubic meter of gravel. Insulated by the very same gravel turned into the mineral wool. My house heat accu (I can not build on my own land) is designed to the tune of 7MWh, co it could store heat from 30kW solar installation operating from March to September. This fits into the 6m diameter rotunde. In 2020 was expected to cost around €15000. 4/5 of t...

@infobeautiful@vis.social I'd note that "repeating propaganda" points != propaganda. Accusation was "posting under influence of propaganda". No one is going to eat nor breathe lead from sealed batteries compartment. As an excercise for reader: how many energy we can store under the small mall parking lot 60*20m assuming lead-acid battery 2m high placed beneeth the ground (2400 cubic meters)?

@dzwiedziu@mastodon.social @infobeautiful@vis.social [...] Yes! Almost every point of anti-storage propaganda repeated (the one omitted is about hydrogen being flammable). Debunking: 1. All components of lead-acid batteries are curently _byproducts_ of other indispensable industries. Lead itself accompanies copper ores. Sulfur is a byproduct of natural gas/oil purification. Whether "waste" byproducts end up in landfills or in batteries matters. 2. Battery plates can be renovated on-...

@dzwiedziu@mastodon.social @infobeautiful@vis.social are you asking about "lobbying" efforts (this would be R 2023/1542 and Digital Battery Passport kicking in next year). The whole regulations only skim non-patentable technologies, like lead-acid batteries. These can be operational for millenia, due to their simple chemistry. The only maintenance that must be done is on-site processing of sulfated battery plates. Something that once upon a time (1950-1990) was being done on the ma...

@dzwiedziu@mastodon.social @infobeautiful@vis.social storage capacity is artifically restrained. We have the tech to store electricity cheap and with a one-time low investment and minimal maintenance sosts, we have the millenia old tech to store heat, yet more and more legislatures are -lobbied- bribed to make cheap perpetual solutions illegal.

@Vivaldi@social.vivaldi.net Switching browser is not a small thing. For most non-mobile users it is a tough decission not to be taken lightly. And something that needs a determination. As for the awareness of the state of permeating inviglilation it is there, but it is being supressed, as something one can do nothing about. Of course old nerds possibly can, "but not me". That is my impression, an anecdata of some dozen of talks.

Can an American waitress understand the struggles of a European waitress who spends half her earnings on a mortgage payment for an apartment of less than 200 sqft, with three-quarters of the remaining half going toward electricity and food? Can this EU waitress imagine the $2.35/h min wage of her US colleague? Above occurred to me while I was reading a hot thread about tipping customs in the EU and the US... #eu #us #Europa #USA #WorkersRights

> Poland’s largest cryptocurrency exchange is facing liquidity issues. Analyses indicate that Zondacrypto’s Bitcoin reserves have fallen by 99 percent. [wp.pl/biznes] For those planning to part with their savings: it is technically impossible to own a fractional share of a real cryptocurrency. You can only own a fractional share of the exchange owner’s promise that they will pay you something before they disappear.

The first gender reassignment operation in Poland took place on 21 April 1937 at the Infant Jesus Hospital, which is still located on Starynkiewicza Square in Warsaw. The operation was performed by the surgeon Henryk Beck, whilst Dr Stanisław Luxenburg oversaw the endocrinological aspects of the transition. The Polish javelin thrower and table tennis player, Zofia Smętek, had announced her transition and his new name, Witold Smentek, in the newspapers beforehead – for the residents of Warsaw c...
