@TrueNorthSpice@mastodon.world Outaouais, west Quebec. I mean yeah poutine was yummy when I was drunk at the university bar. But it’s not like it is, like, everywhere.

  • @AndrewHenry@mastodon.energy @TrueNorthSpice@mastodon.world Originally, from the west coast it was the old summer chip trucks with their high quality chips made from the last of last year’s crop of potatoes that was the revelation to me. I never thought chips/fries could be so crispy and flavourful. The first time someone took me across to Gatineau to get real poutine, I was not entirely convinced. It took a bit, as well as figuring out that I preferred the chicken or mushroom gravy to the classic beef. But even in the 1990s, KFC in Canada had a ‘poutine your fries’ option in there combos in Eastern Ontario. Our near adult kids definitely think that poutine has to be in the rotation, but we only get it from a poutine specialty place. They also have the regional “What’s the point of serving maple syrup if you can’t pour a half a cup over the entire plate?” preference but have visited the coast frequently enough to be picky about the quality of seafood.
