@geoff_eg@mastodon.social it’s an absolute trope in cdramas. Fallen bamboo leaves are as quick and effective in hiding footprints as new snowfall. You may recall the lengthy bamboo forest wirefu sequence in *Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon*. Here, as an example, is the poster for a wuxia movie we watched recently for #KungFuSat.

Thanks @klu9@ohai.social for hosting! It does seem as though there should be more tales with this heroine and sidekick. However, I don’t see more recent films from this director. Some of the same cast are in earlier ones though *The Imperial Cat* (2019) and *The Imposter Bodyguard* (2017). #kungFuSat #TheMysteriousInn #cDrama

We’ve got our heroine’s origin story and a justification for revenge. Know she’s going to be awesome. Love the wirefu on the beach. #kungFuSat #TheMysteriousInn #cDrama #FemaleCentricWuxia

And we’re right into an ominous bamboo forest scene in the first ten minutes. Bad things always happen in bamboo forests. :packetcat_wink: #kungFuSat #TheMysteriousInn #cDrama

I’m here! This looks like a fun period wuxia tale…wondering if it’s part of a larger series of stories. #kungFuSat

Just finished the 16 episode 2025 cDrama limited series sci-fi thriller *Mobius* starring the always excellent Bai Jingting. It’s a current day science fiction mindbender that deserves a larger international viewership. It’s available on both Netflix and Rakuten Viki. Set in modern day Macau, and filmed in Macau, Hong Kong and Guandong, it’s a stylish, smart high concept, high end production that keeps the viewer engaged until the final scene. The sci-fi scenario combined with Bai Jingtin...

An update and some details on season 2 production of the APTN/CBC/Netflix hit show *North of North*. For those unfamiliar with life in the Arctic or Inuit culture, *North of North* is an authentic, Indigenous-led show that captures modern life, historic trauma and cultural traditions in an engaging comedy. I can hardly wait to see where the journey of Siaja, a modern young Inuk woman, takes her in the second season. Production in Nunavut is close to completion, originally planned to wrap at t...

The National Film Board of Canada (NFB) has uncovered, digitized and is making available a significant collection of original and innovative Inuit animation from Cape Dorset, Nunavut. ‘These newly uncovered reels run for more than 50 minutes and are made by 12 different filmmakers — nearly triple the number of reels first screened to the public in “Animation from Cape Dorset.” “Think of it as a director's cut,” Fournier said. “All of [the reels] had never seen the light of day or had...

As it happens, cobra chickens aka Canada Geese and wild turkeys are not the only combative nesting birds we need to contend with in springtime. Somehow this unfortunate incident seems quintessentially Surrey, BC. As someone who grew up on the coast, bald eagles nesting in large trees, diving for fish and bivalves, or defending territory isn’t surprising — I just can’t recall hearing of them getting tangled in wires. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/fighting-bald-eagles-power-li...

Not sure there’s actually anything more to this than Dean Devlin making best efforts to keep up a positive buzz towards a potential 3rd season for ‘The Ark’ in genre media, but it’s nice to see a some coverage from the red carpet at the Saturn Awards nonetheless. ‘In an exclusive interview with The Direct's Russ Milheim on the red carpet of the 52nd Saturn Awards in Los Angeles, California, The Ark creator and showrunner Dean Devlin was asked if he could share any details about Season 3...

The Ark continues to be a surprisingly durable entry into the genre of aspirational science fiction shows! Season 3 is greenlit, to be released in 2026. Sounds like Dean Devlin has succeeded in convincing NBCUniversal that what’s come so far is really just the prequel. Calling out to all those interested in watching/rewatching seasons 1 & 2. Our @thearkchat is set up for chat, news and watch parties. We’ve agreed on a Saturday watch party slot. Now that we know season 3 is a go, ho...

@thearkchat Dropping a line to all who’ve expressed interest in watch parties for The Ark. We’d identified Saturdays midday Eastern Time as the most amenable time overall for the group. However, I never got these launched in the late spring as we’d discussed. I owe you regrets and an explanation. A major work project took over more of my personal time than I could have expected since May. It’s coming to its conclusion this month. I expect to be able to take on organizing the watch parties...

Hey fans of *The Ark* television show, last week’s Saturn Awards nominations include a the show’s second season in the ‘Best Science Fiction Television Series’ category. There’s stiff competition with *Andor*; *Star Trek: Strange New Worlds* and the Apple triumvirate of *Foundation*, *Severance* and *Silo*. Nonetheless, the nomination attests that this lower budget, often cheesy new take on the oft-used Ark-ship concept continued its improvement throughout its second season. It’s relative r...
