Q, are hybrid cars really part of Green Transition? If drivers rely on the petrol element too much, then likely not really. as Shane Brennan (ChargeUK) put it: 'A plug-in hybrid electric vehicle that is never plugged in is a costly petrol car puling round a heavy battery'; as PHEV drivers often find mid-journey charging too time consuming (75% of popular PHEVs can't use fast charging), they rely (too much) on the petrol engine aspect of their cars. #ElectricCars #GreenTransition h/t Guardian

@ChrisMayLA6@mastodon.me.uk I own a PHEV and I surely get your point: when I’m doing a long trip I don’t even plan to plug it along the way both for the reason you pointed out (it takes about 3 hours to charge it to get some modest 70km of electric route) but I wouldn’t also because the price of electricity in fast charger is so much higher than regular ones. On the other hands, when I’m moving in the city I may go entire months without ever turning on the petrol engine simply because I can charge the car at my office place. So, I get your point, but frankly don’t agree too much on the conclusion that phevs are not green. I may do 5/6 maybe 10 long trips per year while I use my car daily for every other need in the city.
