The HuggingFace hack is like the most overt, offensive example of this pattern. "We did a bunch of federal crimes. Oops I mean A ROBOT did a bunch of federal crimes, I'm touching my nose, you can't put me in jail for a premeditated CFAAA violation"

It's not even "I wrote some software and put it in a product and the product did a harm and I'm maybe fractionally culpable in a way that's really hard to apportion" any more. It's just "I set up a computer to do crimes and I spent ten million dollars on electricity to prove it could do crimes and it did a crime. Who could have known!"
