Christian Nationalists demand women exit the workforce entirely, and men are to support their family without any formal education. You’re supposed to “give your womb to the Lord,” homeschool your kids, grow your own food, and pray over illnesses until they go away. Be self-sufficient. Isolated.
So what happens when these families fail, like the Siders? Do the churches and degree-holding politicians who told them “God provides for all his children” step in to help? Nope, churches won’t even give out baby formula anymore. Nat C politicians shrug and say they clearly weren’t true believers.
Once the surviving children (because family annihilation is tied to economic stress) are taken into foster care, they go to school. They get medical treatment. Adults are signed up for all the help there is. In the Siders’ case, the grandfather had so many health issues the county jail couldn’t afford to hold him; they let him go so Medicaid would be billed instead.
It’s the rest of us who participate in society who foot the bill and absorb the cost of caring for entire families. “Traditional” families talk a lot about being self-sufficient and how much they hate government systems, like food assistance and healthcare, but they ultimately end up being the largest drain on those resources.
I believe this is an intentional move by Christian Nationalist elite, who ultimately want to gut these “ineffective” systems entirely. It doesn’t matter if generations of families suffer and die, there will always be more babies for the trafficking pipeline.
