I just love this takedown too much not to post it... (...and i am lowkey giddy thinking how many mansplaining replies this could get...)

@afreytes@mastodon.gamedev.place i generally take my coffee black, and only rarely have tea (and then i only drink sugar with a little orange pekoe added), so i look at formal etiquette like this as if it's a re-enactment of some ancient ritual performed by a vanished culture both we and the performer are only marginally familiar with; it's a curiosity, not very interesting, pointless. It would be amusing to imagine him doing this every time he has a cup of something hot, both on and off camera. He'd loathe it quickly

  • @afreytes@mastodon.gamedev.place Some of the rules for tea made historical sense (for example, when drinking from fine china, pouring cold milk in first then tea avoided thermal shock that would break the expensive cups and then got repeated as the 'correct' way of preparing tea). But the white sugar for tea and not brown? I can't even begin to imagine why that would ever have been a thing, except maybe that white sugar was more expensive and so using white sugar showed that you had more money than sense? I now really want to know the history of that rule and whether it really is that stupid. Anyway, if someone really wants to know how to brew tea, ISO has you covered. ISO 3103 is right there. (For many years, I had 'This email complies with ISO 3103' as my email signature, until someone read it and knew what it meant)
