I was hoping I had warned enough about thar risk in the article. Appanot. what you experienced is very close to how it is to join mastodon.social and lool at the global feed. Onboarding is still very bonky for lonesome explorers. But yes, there are emerging communities. It all depends which relays you consult: much like the fediverse community is built around them. the difference being your identity does not belong to them.

@setto@tooting.ch I literally had just deleted my Nostr identity (or maybe abandoned it) to try to make some sense of what I found when I posted. The mobile apps make it look like a bunch of communities that turned social "likes" into sleazy bitcoin farms. The way Nostr was presented made it look like it was blockchain. I see now that it's not - blockchain just came along for the ride. Thanks, I'll have to take a look at better relays. Not giving up yet. I can see value in what the protocol wants to do.
