🧵 5/21
Walking alongside the French garden at Drottningholm palace and hearing the the splash of fountains, I experienced a few moments of perfect happiness.
I was interested to read that much of the bronze statuary had been brought back to Sweden from Prague as spoils during the Thirty Years War. In addition, I felt oddly touched to learn that on account of inadequate water pressure, the fountains only started to work properly in 1961.

🧵 6/21 I made two visits to National Museum at Stockholm and would happily make two thousand more. As i had been expecting, I enjoyed their excellent collection of French paintings from the 18th century as well their works of art from Sweden. This Goya, though, was a delightful and stirring surprise.
