I had an extremely vivid dream during which I said "Arigato gozaimasu" (thank you in Japanese) to a woman, and she turned out to be Korean. I was mortified, and then realised that I didn't even know how to say sorry in Korean. I think the safest thing would be for me to learn all languages and be sure about someone's first language before venturing into it. Either that, or never leave the house.
