Quite bold. Should NZ follow suit or do we still have plenty of spare time, climate-wise? https://www.ctvnews.ca/climate-and-environment/article/france-unveils-plan-to-ditch-all-fossil-fuels-by-2050/

@KiwiEV@mastodon.nz yes yes, this is far more achievable for AoNZ except for fertiliser, plastics and other products. Of course we should. Of course.

@KiwiEV@mastodon.nz No, we're out of spare time. The effects we thought might start hitting in another 10 years are already here. We're not going to manage 1.5 degrees. We're on track for 3. EVERY country needs to be doing this. NOW. But even if you don't believe in climate change you can point to the Strait of Hormuz on a map now and that's a pretty good reason too.

@KiwiEV@mastodon.nz Well, since NZ is on a different planet, the same rules don't apply, of course. So we have oodles of time.

@KiwiEV@mastodon.nz Not really bold. Too little too late, really. They're a nuclear power after all.

@KiwiEV@mastodon.nz If the oil companies were not corrupting all parties except Green, we'd have done this years ago. It would have been so on-brand for NZ to have lead the world on this, like we did with the anti-nuclear legislation. I weep for the political courage our leaders had a generation ago.
