@corbden@defcon.social i believe tom bombadil is a necessary counterbalance to the darkness of the one ring. someone who is so far above it that the ring barely registers to him. in any case, when i read the books again, i find him delightful.

@corbden@defcon.social I get why people hate the guy, but I think most of the haters don't get why they hate him. IMO he's one of the darkest parts of the books because he's the good guy—even the omnipotent good guy—just having a fun li'l party in the woods. He could help, but nah why bother; Sauron takes middle earth but why would Tom give a shit, he'll be fine, and he'll keep partying. The ring? Who cares, just party, forever
