Okay, so you know how the capital A used to face the other way up, because it started of as a pictograph of a cattle (or possibly goat) head? And each letter has a history you can trace, and so do the Arabic numerals? Imagine how hard Sesame Street would have gone if they taught that history. That's not just a fun curiosity, it also teaches how... *invented by ordinary people* all of our writing systems are. They weren't better than you, they were the same. You, kid scooted too close to the TV screen! You could invent letters too! I dunno, I don't think received knowledge on its own is very enfranchising. You gotta teach people, especially at a young age, that creation is not out of their reach, traditions are not above question, and that the tapestry of history is here for everybody's signature.
