@nyhan@fediscience.org The co-opting of "open" for things that are the opposite of inclusive, access-oriented, and in service of the common good. It's why we have to lead with values rather than tools/tricks/tech.

@actualham@social.coop @nyhan@fediscience.org When I was moderator of an alternative lifestyles web forum (and this was near 20 years ago!) I noticed a lot of "hippy" parents who were home educating their kids (here in England) slowly get sucked into making increasing use of USA-sourced resources with a lot of subtle (and not so subtle!) Christian indoctrination, simply because these were free (and it pushed these folk slowly but surely towards the right wing)
