#WritersCoffeeClub 8/24. Talk about a time you realised something about a writer through their works. Yeah, so when I was young I loved a series of books written by Hugh Walton, they were British SF with plucky kids being astronauts. There was even a pair of telepathic identical twin sisters in one book. In 2021 I re-read them, and it kinda started okay. They were scientifically accurate for what was believed at the time Then I hit the book with the telepaths and that was fine. Then for the following books the girls just vanished - despite being critical to the communications system. It took me a while to figure it out. 1/2 🧵 #writing #writingCommunity

Not a good look for an author TBH. But the girls? I realised his "real science" was simply what was stated as science in the press. And this was the time of J.B.Rhine and the Duke University ESP "revelations", and Walters just took that as established science. But then it was all discredited and the girls simply ceased to exist. And his Pluto book was just shit. There were more but I just gave up. Crap writer. Crap stories. Rather disappointing really. #writing #writingCommunity
