#WritersCoffeeClub 8/24. Talk about a time you realised something about a writer through their works.

I knew Walters started writing SF because he hated the "nonsense" other SF writers were doing - even though he had aliens attacking earth in the first two books. Not a good look for an author TBH.
But the girls? I realised his "real science" was simply what was stated as science in the press. And this was the time of J.B.Rhine and the Duke University ESP "revelations", and Walters just took that as established science.
But then it was all discredited and the girls simply ceased to exist.
And his Pluto book was just shit. There were more but I just gave up.
Crap writer. Crap stories.
Rather disappointing really.

@adaddinsane@mastodonapp.uk #WritersCoffeeClub 8/24. Talk about a time you realised something about a writer through their works. Oh god, this is a deep well. I loved Robert Heinlein so much as a kid, I accumulated almost his complete works. I mean, minus a handful of really obscure ones. I had a paper round and spent all the pay on books. I knew from the start he was a shitty prose writer, but his stories and ideas seemed so cool...until I started to notice the misogyny and racism that suffuses it all. 😬
