Getting real tired of people going "your open source must take a stance or you're doing free work". I've released a lot of FOSS, because *I needed it*, and then I went "it cost me nothing to make, here you go, humanity, do whatever you want with it". Some of those have thousands of github stars and millions of weekly downloads. Because others thought they were useful, too, and other than a single large donation I've never made money off of that. And I knew that from day one. That's how FOSS.

  • There's FOSS that you make because it solves *your* problems, and that's the driver, and there's FOSS you make because you think it solves *others'* problems, and one of those two has immediate value and it's irrelevant what the rest of the world does with it so why not put it online, and the other may have value but you'll end up feeling like you're doing free work for a world that doesn't show enough appreciation for that. The solution to that feeling is blindingly obvious.
