There's FOSS that you make because it solves *your* problems, and that's the driver, and there's FOSS you make because you think it solves *others'* problems, and one of those two has immediate value and it's irrelevant what the rest of the world does with it so why not put it online, and the other may have value but you'll end up feeling like you're doing free work for a world that doesn't show enough appreciation for that.
The solution to that feeling is blindingly obvious.

And it's also perfectly fine to give projects to other people once it does what you need. That version that does what you needed? Just use that! Let others take the project in a new direction if that's what they want, you don't have to own everything you make. And even if you really want to, I'll let you in on a little secret: *you can fork your own project*. Just fork it, let a different community deal with owning the original and keep doing your own thing on the fork. You don't need ownership
