When folk tell me I should, I tune them out, as I hear that as the person would prefer I do something their way, and I need something more compelling than that. Replacing religion with something else seems to be what someone who was in a religion would need. People who don't do religion usually already do something to fill their time and don't need to adopt someone's philosophy. But it all comes down to what makes someone feel fulfilled and at peace...

  • @CStamp@mastodon.social If people find fulfillment, then I am nothing but happy for them. The author I interviewed argues that many formerly religious people do have a need for larger-scale philosophical thinking. That could true. I would say also that having thoughts on these matters is also an important basis for secular ethics. Most "nones," however, are not agnostics or atheists.
