@thomas@metalhead.club Not like I know much about fighting spam, but could users be limited to something like one post per 5 minutes? I know reddit sometimes says 'You're doing that too much, wait and try again.'

@thomas@metalhead.club to all of your credit I haven't noticed it, so thanks for the great work you do!

@thomas@metalhead.club This is a problem nobody has stepped up to fix for the last 8+ years. The solutions are mostly obvious, and some of them are complex because spam is complex but nobody has fixed the low hanging fruit. Our anti-spam solution is hoping they get bored and go away (which bad actors mostly do)

@thomas@metalhead.club Yevheniia?

@thomas@metalhead.club Agree with you on this. I have had more than I would like of the Yevheniia versions, and I am not an admin - it is annoying enough for me. I hate to think how it must be for others. And it feels that there should be a way of just dumping all of these.

@thomas@metalhead.club i hope your request is successful, i'm one of the accounts being mentioned in this spam wave. they're at least going into my filtered notifications, but i'm still reporting and then blocking each new spam account, i've probably done that ~20 times just today. i can't even imagine the amount of work it's creating for all you mods/admins!!! thank you immensely for your service. ๐๐ป

@thomas@metalhead.club What even makes it worse are things like this: https://github.com/writefreely/writefreely/issues/1649 ...resulting in "funny" hockey stick graphs: https://fedi.wrm.sr/software/writefreely

@thomas@metalhead.club Ah, so spambots named with characters from yevheniia jumbled about is the pattern I've been seeing. I was wondering why most of the root-like spam registration requests we've been getting sounded similar.

@thomas@metalhead.club The spam these days, it's bad ๐ Hopefully we'll get some tools soon enough to fight back against these spammers. The current recommendation is to switch to manual account approval, which just shifts the problem. Tired of working in reactive, fire-fighting mode.
