Happy Sinéad Ripping Photo of Pope on SNL Day to all who celebrate. Fight the real enemy.

This is one of the most interesting albums I've ever heard, mixes post-/art rock, glitch, and avant-garde metal with traditional Brazilian (Candomblé and Capoeira) music, lyrics in Portuguese, Tupi, and Yoruba. Found via Roadburn's announcement that Antropoceno will be playing this album in full at next year's festival, wishlisted because of that sweet sweet cover art called "Missionary Being Eaten by Jaguar". :msxjaguar: Antropoceno - No Ritmo da Terra (2026) https://so...

I had drafted this the other day with a different pop culture thing in mind, but it's also relevant today so: I always find it strange that there seems to be a parallel tendency to provide a personal stamp of approval when (rightly) stating another community/gender/etc. than your own deserves human rights (e.g., "as the father of a daughter, I think women should have bodily autonomy" or "as the friend of a trans person, I think everyone should have access to gender-affirming...

Ewww, just realized that the Alberta government's decision on eliminating time change includes no longer using 'Mountain Daylight Time' or 'Mountain Standard Time'. As of November, we're apparently in 'Alberta Time'. Wtf, sticking with Mountain Time, kthxbye. #ableg

i'm kinda sorta starting to wish the theory that this universe/existence isn't real and is just a computer simulation or someone's dream or whatever is actually true. mostly because my brain cannot comprehend WTAF is going on. just absolute madness.

Too tired from the house being an oven to find a solution that would prevent the afternoon sun-facing door and window making the house an oven.

And now, found because I searched "Bullet LaVolta and Green River', this cool comp from the European cousin of Sub Pop, Glitterhouse Records. Has those bands plus other American post-hardcore/noise rock/alt rock bands. various - Endangered Species (1990) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUs7a4kOKSg #BulletLaVolta #GreenRiver

Reminder to Albertans and other concerned Canadians that there's a current ourcommons.ca petition regarding AI data centres in Alberta. The petition was started before the Sturgeon County one was announced and doesn't close until September, but I don't know wtf else to do. https://www.ourcommons.ca/petitions/en/Petition/Details?Petition=e-7427 #abpoli #Alberta #yeg

Inspired by mention by a music industry professional that someone listening to a new-to-them album a day is an admirable feat, I'm curious: how many new-to-you albums do you listen to a day, on average?

Randomly perusing SpaceAce/J's Discogs collection today, clicked on this which is lovely jangle-y indie pop. The sole LP album from a (super?)group headed by Brix Smith (The Fall) with Craig Gannon (The Smiths), Clem Burke (Blondie), and James Eller (The The). Sweet, new album coming in October from Catalan experimental/avant-garde composer Marina Herlop! Marina describes it as "a violent celebration of life" structured as a single coherent piece, and today released the middle track as the first single. I had added her 2022 album Pripyat to the 1001OA list, methinks I should do that spotlight soon... Seeing Angine de Poitrine on Tuesday and suddenly have realized that I don't own a single thing with polka dots. No clothing, accessories, decor, nothing. I don't remember ever having an aversion to polka dots, but maybe I do when they're not microtonal?

was in British Columbia the last few days. i've been going there since i was a kid and it never fails that as soon as i cross the border into BC i instantly feel lighter, everything is brighter, more relaxed, and as soon as i cross back into Alberta i feel gloomier, everything looks duller, and the ridiculous signs people actually pay to put along the highway make my blood pressure spike. why do i live here.
