The Berlin Wall never came down. In 1989, western establishment saw a golden opportunity and declared with a flourish a shift towards democracy. Exploitative relations remained unchanged. Barely. The West invaded and plundered East Germany. They stole all the gains of the working class and turned them into wealth for the capitalists of West Germany. They pushed for the impoverishment of the working class of East Germany. For 35 whole years (after declarations for democratization...) they left the ex-East German population to be a second-degree citizen. Eventually we saw the results of this humiliation as in all the former Soviet countries. The systematic humiliation and poverty of the populations leads them to extreme-right. And this result must be credited to the international bourgeois-democratic order. It is precisely the one that creates the economic conditions and ultimately pushes the desperate working class to search refuge in the fake "national pride".

@prolrage@todon.nl I always learned at school in France that West Germany "freed" East Germany. Then I studied at the University in Dresden and there I learned that West Germany tried to erase East German culture, their anthem for instance just disappeared. Despite the east regime being very authoritarian, they were far more advanced than the west for woman and reproductive rights. A lot of people lost their jobs after the reunification and don't feel like the so-called "reunification" was an improvement, quite the contrary. I'm not saying that East Germany was a great country but capitalist Germany certainly isn't. Also it always strikes me that the german communist party is forbidden since 1956 whereas the NPD (a litteral neo nazi party) still exists legally.
