Say you have 2 districts 1. votes 60-40 for #Republicans 2. votes 55-45 for #Democrats So you move district borders around Now you have 1. 54-46 for Republicans 2. 52-48 for Republicans This is #gerrymandering This is the #USA's stupidity But! What if you have a deeply unpopular president? If you never moved the districts, #voter sentiment swing might leave one Republican district But *now* you lose both districts This might happen in #Texas: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/other/ar-AA2cPu5W #VOTE

@benroyce@mastodon.social In 2022, I wrote an article about the math behind gerrymandering. https://tiereddemocraticgovernance.org/blog_details.php?blog_cat_id=21&id=191 People are starting to understand that the math can backfire on the political party doing the gerrymandering.

@benroyce@mastodon.social When you do manage to take your country back, look into having the elections run by something distinct from and not controlled by the feds. For example, the Canadian parliament can't redraw election districts because they can't tell Elections Canada what to do. It works directly for the people of Canada, can't have political ties, and it's funding is untouchable by parliament. That's why you don't see this happening in Canada.
