Not only is it incredibly frustrating for tinkerers, power users, and developers, but it's incredibly wasteful when the only thing keeping an unsupported device from being useful is something like a bootloader lock that you cannot remove.

As well, I personally feel that Factory Reset Protection (FRP), iCloud lock, and Activation lock are incredibly wasteful in that they are intended to function indefinitely, and make the device (and in Apple's case, individual components) functionally useless (except emergency calls on phones). But a lot of folks aren't ready for that conversation. I think a sort of cooldown period should exist such that after a period of time (idk, a year?) since the device was lost, stolen, etc, it should securely wipe its contents and remove the lock, rather than dooming the device and its parts to the landfill, or an inefficient recycling and metals reclamation process.
