A late entry for #JukeboxFridayNight with a #PersonalPlaylist.
The first holidays I spent away from my family I was really sad. I had recently moved to the US for grad school and I could not travel home as I had upcoming field work.
An old friend sent me by snail mail Beirut's album "The Flying Club Cub". My landlady gave me a tiny Christmas tree to put in my tiny apartment. My mom sent by international mail some gifts. I listened a lot to this album and those moments were the last happy things I remember before my depression set in.
When I stopped smiling, it was the lyrics in the song what alerted me that something was wrong with me. "It's been a long time since I've seen your smile".
And when things got very dark and I lost the ability to remember or think about music, this song stayed with me, like a lifeline to a different time, when I was a happy person.
