  Economically, kids cost so much money and are so much work. The majority of that work benefits society, not the parents. The emotional rewards all exist outside of capitalism, and parallel the emotional rewards of other pro-social behaviors, like mutual aid, that capitalism can't quantify (and thus can't comprehend).

That's why we ensure women don't make more money than men; otherwise, who's going to produce babies for us? No babies, no workers; the economy will collapse! Those metals aren't going to mine themselves; the fossil fuels and natural gas aren't going to drill themselves! All that land without skyscrapers isn't going to develop itself! We'll face extinction! Women: Exactly. Enjoy extinction for a greener future.
