@ascentale@sfba.social @Kleen@sfba.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social #BikeNite A4. This Summer, Amtrak built the first ever level boarding platform in Vermont in my town, and the first brand new passenger rail station house in Vermont in over a century, so it's possible now to wheel a bicycle directly onto the Amtrak Vermonter in Brattleboro. It's now possible for me to think of things like multimodal bicycle touring, but I don't have a bicycle suited to it (yet). Not sure where I would go, but the possibilities are greatly expanded.

@ascentale@sfba.social @Kleen@sfba.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social A4. I would *love* to, but due to ableism in the cycling and transit world, even when something provides for cycles, it usually only provides for abled upright cycle riders. Hanging racks, rack with spacing that only fits upright bicycles, inability to roll it the whole way there, etc. This point was included in my talk at the 2022 CalBike Summit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fV-3d-J7pw&t=99s I'd love to take my trike on the trains in Europe, but even though it has some ability to fold, I cannot do it as fast nor lift it through a train door with steps unassisted, etc. So I'm stuck. If I can get across on the ferry, I could be screwed at the train station on the other side. #BikeNite #CycleParkingAudit #Ableism #Train #Ferry #Transport #Transportation #Accessibility

@ascentale@sfba.social @Kleen@sfba.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social A4. Oh wow! What a great idea. I’ve been taking my Brompton onto the GO Transit train to Toronto for various meetings, and now I’m thinking I should try to plan some exploration trips! There are seven GO lines altogether, so I should be able to have some fun 😀🚴♀️🚂❤️ #BikeNite

@ascentale@sfba.social @Kleen@sfba.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social A4. I’ve done one day excursions taking the bike by train and riding to a different train station to come home. They're fun and get me to parts I wouldn't otherwise visit. The only trip with more than two moes of transport was a multiday trip from Treviso to Venice that required a ferry boat to get from the Lido back to Mestre and the train home. Some great cycle paths in the Veneto. #BikeNite
