I think there’s a stronger case for pretty much the opposite rule. If you’re studying a field where you’re going to rapidly be making a lot of income, why do you need a government loan? Get one on the private market.

The case for government being involved at all is that you want to, in effect, subsidize the production of more degrees than the market will provide. If you don’t want to do that, fine, that’s a different conversation. But if you DO want to do that, why just duplicate what the market already rewards?
