At a certain point aren't we just making stuff up to make ourselves feel better? Obviously someone can be wrong about their own gender much the same as someone can be wrong that what they created is art.

Gender is a social construct and describes a certain way we choose to act and dress etc. So it's pretty much impossible to be wrong about your gender if you are honest about your ambitions. The only way I could see someone being "wrong" about their gender is if someone says they are a certain gender but deliberately chooses to act in accordance with another. But even then, the line is blurry, so it would be stupid to police, what "true" gender expression is supposed to be.
