it is now the next day, and my etchant became saturated with copper overnight (there's leftover bits of the wire i fed it) but still smells strongly of HCl, which i think means it ran out of oxygen running bubbles through it to see if that helps

@emily@fedi.uni.horse there are two ways to do Fun Lab Stuff at home without being hassled. 1) be in the middle of nowhere, nobody ever finds out 2) be friendly with all your neighbors and make sure they know you're a science nerd and not a drug cook *before* they randomly stumble across you Doing Science at 1am
