Oracle's revenue from its core business has been stagnant for years. They've only kept things rolling by using their cash to acquire other, better performing companies. They've tried to do the same by jumping in on the AI bandwagon.
They're going into billions of debt to build capacity for _a single customer_. So much money that they feel like they need to fire people.
I doubt it'll help. Salaries are nothing compared to the money they've sunk into data-centres. It just comes of as the typical reflexive cruelty of corporations; when things look shaky, just fire a bunch of people.
